The York Sheffield – Back To School Event

It turns out this wasn’t out first visit to The York Sheffield like we thought it was. We had randomly picked it over a year ago to head for lunch before an Osteopathy appointment and it was amazing. We had talked about going back but we didn’t get the chance, until now. We were so excited to be invited to try out one of their successful food events, that were a big hit throughout 2017. Their Head Chef, Mike Bevan, has already impressed at his other dining experiences including ‘Battle of the Senses’. We loved hearing how this tested your senses with taste, sound, touch, and how the food looked too. Each night has a different theme and this time it was ‘Back to School’.

The York Sheffield is simply stunning inside, the decor is so dreamy and it honestly looks like you could shoot a fashion campaign inside. We couldn’t stop admiring how every corner was utter perfection. The ‘Back to School’ dining experience was all about making you remember your old school dinners, but with a very fancy and contemporary twist on fine dining. There was also a drink pairing menu that you could request on the night, we decided to try this too in order to get the full experience. It was definitely the right choice!

The 6 course menu was seriously interesting and intriguing, even just to look at! Here’s what we had…

Crisp butties
Game chips, bacon salt, bread dipping sauce

It took us so long to work out that this was the first course, we really didn’t know what to expect with looks and this definitely set the tone for the night. Completely what you don’t expect!

The York Sheffield
Turkey Twizzler with ketchup
Homemade Turkey Twizzler, spicy tomato sauce

These were delicious and extremely fancy looking too. The wine paring with this was my absolute favourite, I nearly ordered a bottle!

The York Sheffield
Fish fingers and peas
Thai spiced salmon Goujons, crushed lemon grass and chilli peas, cucumber soup

I was so impressed with just how beautiful this dish looked and tasted.

The York Sheffield
Sausage, chips and beans
Chorizo ravioli, butterbean tomato and saffron potato broth

I laughed so much when I saw this as it just looks so fancy, but when you remember the simplistic name, it does make you chuckle.

The York Sheffield
Jelly and ice cream
Pineapple jelly with Malibu ice cream

The cutest little deserts you’ve ever seen.

The York Sheffield

Jam roly-poly with pink custard
Brioche and jam roulade French toast, raspberry custard jelly, milk gel

The raspberry custard jelly was utterly amazing.

To say we were surprised and impressed is an understatement. My favourite was definitely the Thai spiced salmon Goujons, crushed lemon grass and chilli peas, and cucumber soup, it was SO good. My favourite desert has to be the Brioche and jam roulade French toast, raspberry custard jelly, and milk gel, I could eat this every day!
