Moonpig Virtual Event

Moonpig Virtual Event

Gradually over the last few years, I’ve gone from attending events a few times a month all over the country, to attending just two local events last year. Becoming disabled and losing my mobility over the years has meant that I haven’t been able to attend events that aren’t accessible. Even when the events have been at an accessible venue, the floor or area they’ve chosen to hold the event was up or down a flight of stairs. I have been told ‘it’s just a few stairs’ in the past, but now I have my wheelchair, I can’t just do the stairs and deal with the pain they’d cause.

I have a lot to say about virtual events and how they should continue after the pandemic. So much so that I’m going to be doing an entire post on virtual events and how amazing it felt to be included again. For now, let’s talk about my first zoom event, the Moonpig Virtual Event. Before the virtual event, we were sent out some beautiful flowers from Moonpig and a cocktail making kit from Mix & Twist. Bringing the event’s activities to the comfort of our own homes. These arrived a day or two beforehand.

App Masterclass

After saying ‘Hello!’ 3 times before realising my microphone was muted, we all got to say hello to each other before starting off with the first activity, a Moonpig App Masterclass. I’ll be honest, I had no idea Moonpig had an app. I have shopped and used Moonpig for many years now and I always go to my computer before I even start to look. Just because I thought it would be easier. Now I’ve used the app, I won’t be using the desktop version again! The Moonpig app has SO many extra features, it’s ridiculously easy to use and it’s so easy to upload photos straight from your phone rather than transferring to your computer and waiting for them to upload.

Whilst Jasper from Moonpig walked us through the app, he encouraged us to actually put a personalised card together. It was Alfie’s birthday the next week, so I picked a card with 40 personalised photos on the front and I had so much fun picking and choosing. I loved the extra features that the app has, including help with the message inside! That’s one thing I’ve always struggled with and Moonpig’s App has tonnes of suggestions that you can then personalise. They also have the option to write your message on a piece of paper and upload that. Seriously fancy and such a special touch!

If you download the Moonpig app and use this link, you’ll get 30% off!

Cocktails Masterclass

Next, it was time for James from Mix & Twist to give the cocktail masterclass. We were sent some gin (as Moonpig have gin gifts that you can send with their cards) and all the ingredients needed to make three different cocktails. Here’s what we made below:

  • Gin Garden:  45 Gin, 25 lime, 25, sugar syrup, mint, cucumber, soda top. Build method.
  • Elderflower Collins: 45 Gin, lemon, 25, sugar syrup, Elderflower soda top. Shake and pour.
  • Strawberry Gimlet: 3-4 strawberries, 45 Gin, 25 lime, 25, sugar syrup, 25 cranberry juice. Shake and strain.

Nobody actually asked James to go at a slower pace so the Moonpig Virtual Event was a mix of sheer panic and absolute laughter trying to keep up with him until a few people cried out. My table was covered in alcohol and I absolutely loved it. It was so much fun and a great laugh too! Plus the cocktails were beautiful and definitely something that we’re going to remake! I loved being sent the pro cocktail making things like a fancy cocktail spoon and a juicer!

Flower Arranging Masterclass

Moonpig Virtual Event

The flower masterclass by Roxanne from Moonpig was definitely the most educational part of the Moonpig Virtual Event. I learnt SO much about flowers and why I’ve been killing them so easily in the past. Moonpig Flowers come with booklets that do have the full instructions on how to look after the flowers and get the most out of them too. So if you’re sending them to someone else who usually complains their flowers don’t last long, get them to read and fully follow the instructions, it makes so much difference! Including changing the water every day, using only half the pack of flower food on the first day and the second half the day after, and cutting the stems on an angle. Those are definitely the tips that have stuck with me the most! Flowers are such a lovely gift to send for occasions or just because!

I had such a great evening at the Moonpig Virtual Event and I really loved being included again. That being said, because I am so grateful to be included, I did neglect to ask if this would be a fully diverse event and since then, my friends Kirsty, Violet and I, put together a template (click here to see it) that other bloggers can use to make sure they’re only getting involved with fully inclusive campaigns and events. Virtual events can do easily include everyone and they should.
