The family holiday was off after Mum’s knee injury, and with no insurance, we figured — why waste it? Time to get spontaneous! Not too spontaneous though as I’m really not interested in being on a plane longer than 3 hours. They’re extremely uncomfortable and painful for me and with my bile acid malabsorption, a potential nightmare. Palma seemed to be the perfect destination, flying from a closer airport for just over 2 hours? Sign me up! So our Palma holiday went ahead in the Js Palma Stay hotel!
Airport Assistance with my Wheelchair
The airports went really smoothly with airport assistance and I travelled with my electric wheelchair for the first time. Leeds Bradford Airport Assistance Team were extremely friendly and really settled my nerves, and then the team at Palma were really friendly too. I’ve been learning Spanish for quite some time now, and with my anxiety I’ve learnt how to say a lot about my wheelchair, just in case! It did actually come in handy when helping someone else to get her chair back.

Js Palma Stay Hotel Review
I picked out the JS Palma Stay hotel, it’s an adults only hotel around 10 minutes away from the airport and in a quieter location. To be honest, we weren’t planning on leaving the hotel, we’ve never done a stay like that. Usually we’re with more people and rent apartments or villas, so it was a bit worrying if we’d like being around so many people.
The JS Palma Stay Hotel has 3 buildings, 4 pools, a hot tub, spa, swim-up bar, I mean, what more could you want? We had an extremely comfortable stay.
The beds at JS Palma Stay are the best we’ve ever slept on. We even tried to find the mattress name! A solid 10/10 sleep every night, we were so impressed. The room was extremely clean, you could quite literally smell the Spanish cleaning products! The bathroom is a weird layout and as a plus size person it was a big tight getting into the shower, but then absolutely fine once in.
The spa is the real star of the show here, it has the look of a very high end spa and it was mostly very quiet. Obviously with it being 90% indoors, not everyone wants to avoid the sun like us but we just didn’t want to burn all day. Instead we got the best experience with indoor pools, hydrotherapy jets, an option to go outside in the outdoor pool, and a lot less people! The spa is included and open from 9am in the morning.
On our last day we booked massages and they were absolutely magical.
Around the corner, it says 5 minutes but it’s more like 3, is a gorgeous small beach. With deck chairs, umbrellas, and an accessible beach area.
There are a few restaurants within a 5 minute walk too and they were all really nice, our personal favourite was Mar Cala Estancia.

Js Palma Stay Hotel Accessibility
It’s a completely flat entrance and flat access around the entire hotel, small lifts but one wheelchair user would fit comfortably. They do have accessible rooms but they don’t have balconies and we planned to use a travel wash and dry things on the balcony so we asked for a normal room. The staff were really accommodating and said to go have a look and if I wanted to change, they’d be more than happy to.
There was a pool hoist into the main swim up pool, steps and rails into the other outdoor pool and then the spa had two level access pools with very small steps. There’s also another indoor pool for laps but that only had ladders.
The beach nearby had accessible beach area, complete with sea wheelchairs and crutches!
Js Palma Stay Hotel Food
We opted for half board which meant we had breakfast, pool snacks for lunch (we didn’t realise until the last day and went out for lunch) and then our evening meal included.
As my bile acid malabsorption has been flaring a little recently, this was so great for me having a full host of food to choose from as I could really cater to my many dietary requirements. We even found peppermint tea to help calm my tummy.
During both the mornings and evenings there was fresh stations too, I enjoyed several types of fish in the evenings and overall, we just thought that food was really impressive!
Honestly, we really did not know what to expect from this holiday. I was just trying to push myself out of my comfort zones by doing new things and it ended up being such a lovely time. So much so that we’d actually go back! Probably when it’s a little cooler though so we can have at least one day exploring Palma centre.
