Ultimate Netflix Recommendations - Everything I Watched In 2020!

Probably the only upside of being chronically ill and spending a lot of time in bed, is that I’m the go-to person for Netflix recommendations. I know right, impressive. I even split-screen whilst working instead of thinking about my pain too much, I get engrossed in a series or film instead. It means I can get through a season in a day, two seems to be my max. So, here’s everything I’ve watched on Netflix this year.

January

Fighting with My Family 2019 – It’s a funny, light-hearted film about a family of wrestlers.
Z Nation Season 1 – 5 – I love anything apocalyptic and the first season sucked me in years ago. I was sad to see it end so soon on just season 5 but it did turn a little bit too sci-fi for me, like sure Zombies, but they went a little far. The cast made me keep watching and I’ll probably rewatch it in a few years.
King Arthur 2017 – My brother made us watch this by going on and on about it and we’re all so pleased he did. The sarcasm, humour, speed, we absolutely loved it! If you’ve seen Sons of Anarchy then you’ll want to watch it for Charlie Hunnam alone.
Virgin River – I thought it’d just a light-hearted easy watch from the trailer but it had me sobbing, it’s about a nurse who moves from a big city to a small town to escape her own personal troubles and runs into more drama than she hoped.
The Good Place Season 4 – Now it’s all over you won’t have to wait for the weekly episode so you can bulk watch it all! It’s an incredibly smart concept, funny cast, and overall a great show. I’m sad that it ended but equally happy that they didn’t drag it out so it got boring or over the top.
Doomsday Preppers season 2 – Completely ridiculous in most places but if you’re into that sort of thing it’s an interesting watch.
Grace and Frankie Season 6 – One of the best shows Netflix has done, it’s so funny yet raw and despite being about a group of 80 odd-year-olds, it’s really something that I’ve enjoyed watching in my 20s and my parents in their 50s have loved as well. I wouldn’t go as far as a family show seen as they sell dildos, but it’s definitely something at every age you can watch and love.
Chilling Adventure of Sabrina season 3 – I liked this series more than I thought I would, I really didn’t think Sabrina needed a remake but it’s not a remake. It’s Hail Satan! Which is hilarious every time they say it and all the ‘thank, Satans’ instead of God. It’s gone on to be an incredibly gripping storyline!
October Fraction – I really liked this family series of parents with a secret, I don’t think they’re making a second but it’s a good standalone series to keep you busy for a day or two depending on how fast you watch it.

Next in Fashion – Obviously I love Tan, who doesn’t? It was a lot of fun to watch and there was a plus-size episode too which is always a win!
Van Helsing – I always love to rewatch before a new series and Van Helsing is something I’ve rewatched a few times. I think it’s a fantastic series, the concept, the actors, it’s all brilliant and one of the Netflix recommendations I tell everyone about. I can’t wait to see where it ends up.
The Stranger – Everyone went wild for this over social media and it wasn’t hard to see why once you got into it! If you love a thriller mystery then it’s a great watch.
Locke & Key – I thought this was another family series but it’s a little darker and creepier in places, I’m easily spooked though so older kids might be okay with it. Season 2 is on the way and I’m really excited to see what happens.
#Cats_The_Mewvie – A film on cats, do I need to say more?
Hellboy 2019 – I’m a huge fan of Hellboy and I don’t get why it’s been redone, with that being said, I didn’t hate it. I didn’t hate it at all actually and I wouldn’t be mad if they did another.
Kingsman: The Secret Service 2014 – I finally watched and absolutely loved it, what a fantastic concept, and although I’m not a fan of Colin Firth at all, he didn’t bother me too much. I’ve now seen the entire series and looking forward to the next.
To All The Boys: P.S I Still Love You 2020 – Got to have a bit of teenage cringe from time to time and although I put off watching this for the longest time, it was a very pleasant and cringe watch!

Queen Sono – I watched this in a day, I absolutely loved it and so did everyone else as there’s another season coming. I love women spies, they’re so much more interesting to me than men and Queen Sono is a machine!
Spenser Confidential 2020 – Sometimes I think I don’t like Mark Walburg and then I’m laughing and crying at his movies, especially Instant Family which I think is now on Netflix! This was a really great, funny action film.
Self Made: Inspired By The Life of Madam C.J Walker – Who doesn’t love Octavia Spencer? She’s such an amazing actress and I watched this in one sitting and then my mum ended up doing the same! This was an incredible watch about black women’s hair.

Black Lightning Season 3 – I’ve been watching it for years now and it just gets better and better with this superhero family, although I am a bit behind now after the huge cross over series as I feel like I need to watch all of those first, that will take a while!
Ozark Season 3 – I’m a huge Jason Bateman fan and this story is just wild with a normal family involved in cartel business? It’s got out of control now and with season 4 on the way, who knows what’s going to happen.
Money Heist – This Spanish series is talked about a lot, a 4 part bank heist with a very different group of people, it makes a really good watch.
Extraction 2020 – It was majorly hyped up and actually fully deserved which is rare, it’s an absolutely great action film with the beautiful Chris Hemsworth.

The Last Kingdom – My brother made me start watching this and not long after I had overtaken him. All 4 seasons are on Netflix so if you like Vikings, this will keep you busy for a while and there’s more on the way.
Dead to Me Season 2 – This is one of the best series Netflix has produced in my opinion and season 2 did not disappoint. It’s shocking and raw, funny, and overall an amazing watch.
Dangerous Lies 2020 – I loved this the second I watched the trailer but I also thought that the trailer gave away the entire storyline and honestly throughout it all, I still thought that. I’d say, don’t watch the trailer and you’ll fully enjoy this. I still really liked it, but I felt like I guessed too much.
Into the Night: This is a French apocalyptic series where if you’re in the sun, you’ll die. These survivors on a plane are trying to outrun the sun and it makes a very exciting watch. Season 2 is on the way!
Schitt’s Creek: Season 6 – A really light-hearted series about a rich family who has to build themselves back up after losing everything.
Blood & Water – Her sister has been missing for 17 years, that was enough to make me watch it! Another season is on the way.
Dynasty Season 3 – I love the drama in Dynasty and I’m so sad it came to an end. Changing actresses for two main roles was really annoying but still, it was a great show.

June

SnowPiercer – If you take one name away from Netflix Recommendations post, let it be this! SnowPiercer series, the same concept as the film with Chris Evans but 10000% better. I can’t stress enough how much better it is, the train is explained more, the cast is amazing and I cannot wait for season 2 (coming in January), and hopefully many more after that.
Queer Eye Season 5 – Just cry now because that’s all I do when I watch these (apart from the odd ableist or fatphobic episode which is really frustrating.).
365 Days – You’ve seen the tweets, it’s trash and problematic but he’s nice to look at.
Code 8 2019 – Another superhero concept film, it was actually quite good with the actor who plays Arrow and a new actor I’ve just discovered I like that leads in Amazon’s Upload series.
The Order – Witches and werewolves with a hidden agenda, I really liked it!
Freaks 2018 – Yet another film where people have powers but about a man and his daughter. It was a bit hard to get into as we didn’t understand but it ended up being really great.

The Sinner season 3 – Season 1 and 2 apart from a weird side story about the detective, are fantastic. They dropped the weird storyline in season 3 but they also dropped anything that made the show good. Skip season 3!
The Old Guard – The best film of 2020! Seriously I loved it so much and the entire storyline that I want a prequel, sequel, and series to go with this. I don’t want to ruin anything about it so just trust me.
Dark Season 3 – A German time-travel series, it’s extremely hard to follow but now all 3 seasons including the ending explaining everything are live, it’ll probably be easier to do this all together than wait months between the seasons.
Cursed – I really struggled with this one, again witches and all things I usually like but there was just something about it. Maybe it was me? Maybe it’s because I have such a disliking towards 13 Reasons Why and this is the main actress starring?
Good Girls Season 3 – Such a great show and such a great cast, it’s about 3 mums who have money problems so they plan and pull off a robbery and end up getting involved with the wrong kind of people.

August

The Witcher – It came out last year but I decided to rewatch it because of… reasons.
The Rain Season 3 – It’s a Danish apocalyptic show where the rain kills people, you might be thinking what fun I am! It’s an interesting concept again and starts at the beginning of the rain happening so you can see how it plays out.
Greenleaf Season 5 – I got hooked on this from the first episode and I was very sad to see it end and what happened. It’s about a rich black family that runs a church and all their dark secrets.
Lucifer Season 4 – Massive thanks to Netflix for not letting Lucifer die, it would have been such a waste! They’ve only released the first half of this season which is such a tease but if you’re new to Lucifer then you can catch the first few seasons on Amazon Prime.
Project Power – Another film where people have powers, do you think I have a type? With Jamie Foxx leading it was actually a really good film, with lots of action and an interesting concept.
Biohackers – A german series on messing with DNA and a hidden agenda! It’s been renewed for a season 2.

September

Away – Honestly it was very hard to get through, Hilary Swank leaves her daughter and husband to go to Mars. If you like space things then maybe give this a go, but a lot was on feelings and about her leaving them and not enough on going to Mars. I know this is an ultimate Netflix recommendations post but I really wanted to include everything I’ve watched, even the things I didn’t love.
Enola Holmes – It’s thankfully as good as the trailer, really fun, an unnecessary love story for a child but if you can look past that, it’s worth a watch.
The Vampire Diaries – Most of my autumn was taken up rewatching TVD just for fun. I love re-watching series that I started years ago as it’s much easier to miss things when you’re waiting months between seasons than watching it in one go.

October

Emily in Paris – Mostly feel good rubbish kinda stuff, something to put on whilst you’re working or half watching. As a blogger, it was funny to watch how the writers made out ‘influencing’ to be.
To The Lake – A Russian apocalyptic series on a contagious illness, probably not the best watch for anytime soon but it was quite interesting.

November

The Crown Season 4 – I wasn’t going to bother with it but once I started I couldn’t stop! I found myself Googling things for accuracy too which was quite fun to see how closely they had recreated events.
The Originals – This took up most of my October whilst I was working away, it’s such a beautiful cast and shorter than The Vampire Diaries but still an essential watch before I start Legacies.

December

How To Get Away With Murder Season 6 – The final season which I didn’t realise until I was already halfway through. As always it was absolutely amazing and the ending had me crying so much. Annalise Keating is such a memorable character and the actress, Viola Davis, is absolutely incredible.
Virgin River Season 2 – Well the small-town drama series got a lot more serious this season and left us with an even more serious cliffhanger!
Ava – I completely forgot that my parents had already bought and seen this on Amazon Prime months before, I wish I had watched it sooner as Alfie and I both absolutely loved it. She’s a badass and the fighting was really realistic for a change which we both enjoyed.
The Queen’s Gambit – Never in my wildest dreams have I thought to watch something on Chess but I couldn’t look away? I watched the entire series in two sittings and absolutely loved it. I’m a fan of the actress, Anya Taylor-Joy, already after she was in Split (one of my favourite films.)
The Princess Switch: Switched Again – I was so excited to see this because my friend Michelle Hopewell has a cameo in the film and she was amazing! However, the film was a let down on the whole and the ‘minions’ were really cringe-worthy. The first film is definitely the best.
Operation Christmas Drop – The perfect amount of Christmas cringe! I was smiling whilst watching it and even teared up in a few places. Such a lovely film about a true operation!
The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two – Definitely another one that wasn’t as good as the first but I still really enjoyed it.
A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby – Although it came out last year, I have only just seen it and I really liked it! It was a good storyline and the main actress, Rose McIver, is now a favourite after iZombie.
