Do Silk Pillowcases Really Work? This Is Silk

Since becoming disabled I have spent a lot of time in bed either resting or asleep and it’s been the worst for the back of my hair. Especially for knotting at the back and breaking. I’ve tried different products and making sure it’s all brushed nicely before bed, but nothing has completely stopped it like using silk pillowcases. It’s a question I’ve asked myself for years, do I need a silk pillow? Do silk pillowcases really work? The short answer is yes, they really do and I wish I had got one sooner.

Mostly silk pillowcases are thought about for your skin and how they help delay the ageing process by no harsh cotton on your face whilst you sleep. You glide across instead so you don’t wake up with weird lines from where you’ve slept really hard with your face in the pillow. We’ve all done it and then panicked for hours on end whilst the new line fades back away, but over time and these lines will stick around. It’s not the same as a sleep mask that will block the light and feel soft on your face. Silk pillowcases overall help prevent fine lines and wrinkles, it’s also incredibly soft and comfortable to sleep on.

I was sent the This Is Silk, silk pillowcase in white to try out and I wouldn’t be without now. It has made a huge difference to my hair and I absolutely love it. I know what you’re immediately thinking, white with my red hair? If you’ve had red hair before you’ll know that even when completely dry, it still transfers and stains anything I sleep on. Going to bed with my hair wet is a huge no! I can’t have the pillow out on display as it does look a mess and it’s completely stained with red, however, This Is Silk do have other colours, including darker red hair-friendly options. Something for everyone needs and tastes.

This Is Silk, silk pillowcases have actually won an award for ‘best buy’ in the Independent for ‘ability to reduce wrinkles and soften skin’, how impressive is that? They don’t just sell silk pillowcases but they also have hair wraps, eyemasks, silk face masks, silk cloths, silk hairbands, silk hair towels and more! It’s a huge range and it seems to be reasonably priced too in comparison to other silk pillowcases.

With having extremely oily skin I can’t say I’ve personally noticed any difference on my face but the back of my hair and the shorter parts at the very back are in better condition than ever before. Silk pillows really do help with calming frizz and managing bedhead. People are always complimenting what great condition my hair is in and using silk pillows has definitely helped with that. Going forward I would love a matching pair in a darker colour so that I could go between the two whilst sleeping and have them on display.

How do you look after silk pillowcases?

Handwashing is best however This Is Silk silk pillows are completely machine washable. For best results use a delicate wash, suitable detergent and a protective bag for washing machine cleaning. Ideally, you’ll want to clean your silk pillows once a week or every few days if you feel the need. You’ll know. If you can afford to, it might be a good idea to have two on rotation so you don’t have to rush the drying process.

Overall I’d highly recommend silk pillowcases and have even bought them as gifts for others already! As we all know the skin has a lot of time to repair and regenerate overnight so by using a silk pillowcase we give it the best possible surface to do that on. Will you be trying This Is Silk?
