My Week in Rome!

You probably already know, or you have definitely heard, that Rome is one of the most beautiful cities ever and now I can fully confirm that. I wasn’t sure at what angle to go about writing this post as technically I did go for fun and not business, but I had such an amazing time that I wanted to write about it and share it with you all. Everything from the food, the clothes and my adventure in Rome as a whole. Alfie turned 21 last month and as his and his mum’s birthday are in the same week, they decided to make it extra special by jetting us all off to Rome!

So already I’ve been asked where I’d recommend to visit in Rome and the shortest answer is, everywhere. Here are just some of the places we went to…

The Pantheon

This is in the most beautiful Italian square filled with restaurants and alive with culture. The Pantheon is completely free to enter and is absolutely breathtaking, especially at night time when the streets of Rome are bare and you can see the building in all its glory.

The Spanish Steps

We were extremely lucky to be staying 5 minutes away from the Spanish Steps and we could even see them as soon as we stepped out of the front door. I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t managed to get a better photo of the steps at night time as if I’m perfectly honest, people ruin them. The steps are magnificent and shockingly preserved so well. They’re a little slippery though as I found out in my dolly shoes as I nearly fell down them. In front of the steps is a beautiful fountain which has a little stand that you can go on for a perfect photo.

The Colosseum

There are no words for how spectacular this actually is or how much I enjoyed my time roaming around there. We must have spent a good few hours exploring the different levels and being astonished by the beauty of it all. The road leading up is beautiful enough with some of the oldest remains of Rome but the Colosseum itself was utterly mind blowing. It was less than €10 euros each to enter and you can even choose to go on special tours of the underground! I have been reading the travel blog from Emilia Delizia, and I’ve found so many interesting and different travel ideas, about Rome and Italian food. So, if you’re heading that way check out their site for more insight, especially if you love food and wine!

Horse and carriage ride

Excitement meant that I was easily going to hand over €200 euros before better judgement told me to hold off. As we walked away we were offered the same deal but at €100 instead so naturally I almost ran to get on. This tour lasted over an hour we think and we saw everything from the pantheon to the three fountains via the most beautiful backstreets. Probably my favourite part of our time in rome.

The Tour Bus

A hop on, hop off tour guide bus that would usually make me cringe, ended up being one of our best days out. Not only was it convenient to get around, but the headphones and English speaking guide told us all about the beautiful buildings we had been admiring. We ended up getting off and venturing to Hard Rock Cafe, but surprisingly it was very disappointing, with rubbish, overpriced food. The tour was 20 euros each and again, completely worth it.

Castel Sant’Angelo

This was a spontaneous last minute decision that we literally had to count our euros up to do but it was so worth it. At 10.50 euros each, this was the perfect way to finish our time in Rome. The castle is absolutely beautiful and you could literally spend all day as it has a cafe right near to the top where you can sip wine and dine whilst looking out at the amazing Rome skyline. Utterly breathtaking, and so is the walk up to the top but the views of Rome’s skyline, where you can literally see everything was so completely incredible that we would definitely go again.

The Food

The food in Rome is absolutely amazing so I definitely tried to have a little of everything. With my new fancy Canon 70D, I took some, in my opinion, amazing photos.

The outfits

now I did take a ridiculous amount of clothes for rome, but when j got there it was simply too hot for most of them. I ended up wearing my BBW Couture dresses as they’re so thin and lightweight. I really did not care about having most of my flesh on show and in fact, didn’t even think about popping a cardigan on when I wore the same dress whilst back in England. Sounds silly but that’s actually a big thing for me! I obviously wore other things, but with the heat, a look book was off the cards completely.
