After being the first person to want a ticket for the PS Pre Party, I received a special thank you gift in the form of an envelope. It contained a fabulous prize of a meal for 2 at The Alchemist in Leeds and I couldn’t wait to finally use it when Plus North came around (Plus North week is starting Monday!). On Friday night we headed off to the Trinity shopping centre in Leeds and wandered around in search of this strange looking restaurant. When we finally found The Alchemist we were blown away with how busy, yet inviting it looked. The decor is absolutely stunning and we were lead right to the back where the seating area is. The staff are incredibly friendly and really take their time to make sure that you receive a really good service. As part of our meal we got a Mad Hatters Tea Party which is a sharer for two cocktail made from Green Mark Russian Vodka, Briottet Elderflower Liqueur, Cointreau, Citron Gomme and Water that is boiled up before your eyes and infused with a mixture of fresh fruit before being served in tea cups that smoke from the dry ice. We had the entire restaurant staring at us for ordering such an elaborate cocktail, but one kind lady offered to take a couple photos for us as it did look pretty amazing.
Ryan was a little confused over the whole dry ice being safe to consume and ended up looking rather unimpressed and worried which made me laugh a lot. After it had finished boiling, the waiter came back over and poured it into these containers, which made me feel as if we were doing some sort of experiment…When we finally plucked up the courage to pour it into our teacups and try it out, it basically tasted like a very alcoholic fruit tea and we both really enjoyed it. This alone was enough to give us a proper Alchemist experience!
When we got around to ordering, I had heard that the chicken basket was definitely something to try and Ryan ended up ordering it. We didn’t expect that it would be served in an actual chicken basket though….. It looks rather plain as Ryan asked for no fancy business around it, otherwise I imagine a salad or sauce to be somewhere on it. Ryan was really happy with his meal and didn’t leave a single chip!
I was feeling a little more plain that evening as I was too excited over Plus North to eat too much, so I opted for Scampi and chips. Of course, that wasn’t the standard scampi and chips, instead this one came in a box complete with a lid! We were a little confused at first as there’s nothing like this in Sheffield at all, but we soon ended up absolutely loving the atmosphere and quirkiness of The Alchemist. This was probably the best scampi I have ever tasted and I loved the peas with mint!
We even finished off the meal with a smoking Long Island Ice Tea and I had a Wawoo, The Alchemist’s take on the WooWoo. It was rather pretty with it’s bright red colour and sparkles floating around.
We soon headed off as we went to meet some of the beautiful bloggers who were attending Plus North!
Have you been to The Alchemist before? What did you think?
