When Tesco emailed to see if I wanted to take part in their Summer Flame Academy Campaign, it was the most perfect timing. We had already planned to treat my parents by hosting a BBQ, and not letting them do a thing whilst they were there! For my dad, this is a tricky one as he’s the type of person that will always help others, even when he’s the guest and constantly told not to. Alfie likes to big up his BBQ skills but he was yet to show them off, so this was the perfect opportunity to get everyone together, relax, and try something new with the BBQ Food.
Tesco have a pretty amazing section on their website where you can shop by the recipe you want to do, it’s perfect for families that always eat the same thing, or people who just want to try new, healthier options. The Flame Academy section is no different, we all love our typical BBQ, but have you ever but beetroot and avocado on your burger and loved it? I now have! Ben Tish is Tesco’s Flame Master and on the website, he provides you with the best BBQ tips!
To get started we received:
A £50 Tesco voucher
A portable Tesco BBQ (we did try using this one, but there were too many of us to cook for, it’s pretty amazing though)
Tesco BBQ utensils
Obviously with there being 5 of us, but I was convinced there were 4 and kept making Alfie cook for 4, we did need a little extra food… There were 5 recipes we attempted, and made our own spin on with what we had in. We had the difficulty that the nearest Tesco was a seriously long bus/train/unicorn away, so we had to wait until everyone had arrived via car to be able to take us for any last minute things. The recipes were…
Beef and beetroot burger with buttermilk slaw recipe – Seriously, avocado and beetroot on a burger is the way forward.
Spiced chicken skewers – We added chorizo for extra spice.
Grilled buttermilk chicken recipe – Ok, so we covered these in BBQ Sauce but the thought was there….
We also attempted to make our own kebabs, but I can’t seem to find the recipe now and the website (I’m sure or I dreamt it) did have a BBQ treats section where I got the idea to make a chocolate and fruit fondu from, maybe I did dream it…
We had such an amazing family day from swinging in a tree swing, having a paddle in the river with my mum, and laughing and singing to music all day. The weather was thankfully being rather nice too! We basically spent the entire day bringing out little bits of food every now and again so no one was too full, or too empty.
Have you planned a big summer BBQ this month? Definitely head over to the Flame Academy website and have the best one ever!
