Tapas Revolution is coming to Sheffield Meadowhall, tomorrow! Yes, that’s right, tomorrow! The handsome Spanish TV chef Omar Allibhoy is opening up his fifth branch right here in Sheffield and after trying out the menu and his incredible cooking at a VIP event a couple weeks ago, you’ll definitely be seeing me there. I’ve tried many Spanish tapas bars around the UK and although some have been good, none have been as authentic as this. Omar has been called the ‘Antonio Banderas of cooking’ by Gordon Ramsay and has cooked for a whole host of celebrities diners, including Penelope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Antonio Banderas, Tom Hanks and Bill Nighy. He knows his tapas!
Tapas Revolution Meadowhall is going to be something that Meadowhall desperately needs after the closing of it’s only Spanish tapas bar last year, and I am so excited to see what the branch will look like. Everything is freshly prepared in house by a team of Spanish chefs and the atmosphere is meant to be of an actual tapas bar. Busy, fun, lively and plenty of good food to go around. It’ll feature a copper-topped bar, open kitchen, comfortable burnt orange leather banquettes and marble tables, which will obviously be open all day. The menu is simply divided into five sections; El Picoteo (nibbles), Jamón Y Queso (ham), Las Verduras (vegetables), Los Pescados (fish) and Las Carnes (meats) which of course you mix and match. I loved that the menus also have set meals that you can order, just in case you want to try something new, or might be new yourself to tapas! The menu also recommends how many plates you should order depending on how many are dining, which I can’t tell you how much is needed for people who don’t understand tapas! The amount of times I’ve been left starving because a non-tapas loving friend thinks 2 plates is enough, ugh! Plus it even has a ‘Menu rapido’ for those of you who are in a hurry. A brilliant touch for a fast but tasty lunch! Not only that but it’ll also be a prime spot to stop for an authentic drink with Spanish craft beers (Alfie can’t wait!), Spanish gins and wines.
During the VIP night we tried out an amazing range of the dishes, including his chicken paella which was incredible. The menu will include the classics, which we all expect, except they’ll probably be more delicious than you’ve ever tasted before! Omar laughed at himself for jumping from his other branches in Shepherd’s Bush, Kent, Shoreditch and Birmingham to come to Sheffield but he thinks the scene here for good food and drink is growing so fast that he wanted in. I’m beyond happy and I definitely agree. Omar and the team at Tapas Revolution were so kind as to gift us with goodies bags including Spanish Beer, one of the most important ingredients in Spanish cooking, Paprika, and his cook book! Mum and I gifted our books to Alfie and Dad so that they can read up and become Spanish Gods in the Kitchen too. We’re still waiting but we’re hopeful!
The new Tapas Revolution in Meadowhall, Sheffield opens on the 16th March 2016.
