Plus Size Swimwear Haul!
After spontaneously booking a holiday, I have been obsessed with buying Summer clothes and swimwear. To the point where until last week and after some crazy sale orders, I had more swimwear than actual clothes for the holiday and we’re counting down the weeks! There’s no time to waste when it comes to having the perfect swimwear and so I’ve been collecting pieces from around the Internet, and I even went as far as ordering from Torrid in the US to make sure I could try out as many different styles as possible. I was just going to use the photos below, but then a few people said how handy it’d be for me to film trying them out and so, that happened too and you can see it at the end of this post.
This post will have the main details, links, sizes and a few extras that aren’t in the video due to not wanting to die trying to get them on again. I’ll follow the order in my Youtube video for ease and then add the extras on…
I LOVE this. Halter neck, little cut out on the cleavage, roomy with slight ruffles and a super comfortable fit. I sized up and definitely could have fit in a 2X but I wanted it to be easy to get on with my back problems.
I highly recommend Forever 21’s swim range, it looks incredible.
It’s now only available in black and I’m definitely going to purchase it because I really do love this swimsuit. It’s just a really simplistic design that works SO well, it adds a little decoration to the bust and sizing up means I don’t get the best support, but I get a really comfortable fit and that’s my priority.
A very small, tight and uncomfortable fit. It feels like the torso is too short and therefore sits completely wrong. I actually couldn’t wait to get it off, I’m so sad because I wanted to love it after my success with the teal.
It features black ‘illusion’ panels and in my video I demonstrate how useless they are and that things like this is just a gimmick.
Please buy a swimsuit because you like the pattern and not because you think a black panel will make you ‘look thinner.’ I love the pattern on this regardless, it just wasn’t meant to be.
I’m SO disappointed because I love polka dots, it looks amazing off and on the model on the website, but I would need to size up again to a 24 to make it work. The bust sits really low down and drags my boobs down, squashes them and almost makes them look flat against my stomach. Not the look that I want at all unfortunately.
This features the ‘wrap effect’ which is meant to pull you in and shape you, again, you’ll still look your size but thankfully it’s a cute pattern and shape.
Navabi – Miraclesuit AURORA SKIRTED SWIMSUIT – £129.99 – Size 22
Ok – in my video I said how I didn’t like the way this costume made my boobs look but after watching back the video for hours whilst I edited it, I actually love how I look? Like this has shot straight up onto my favourites! Despite the tummy control making it very difficult to get on, once you’re in it’s so comfy and it looks so cute and fashionable. I actually really adore this costume now and despite my boobs looking ‘east and west’ they do look good though!? Miracle suit indeed…..
High quality, extremely good quality and as always with Navabi, it’s fabulous.
Despite this one technically being my mum’s I wanted to include it anyway. I really love the pattern but I’m sad how the bottom half clings. It’s meant to be a 40D/E if I remember correctly (as it’s no longer available on the website but Evans have a great range) but my 38GG boobs fit anyway. I love leopard print and my mum looks fabulous in this. I definitely want to try more from Evans Swimwear as I’m super impressed so far, but I really don’t need anymore swimwear, dilemma!
A proper bikini!? Yes please! Of course it’d be Curvy Kate to offer the best bikini I’ve ever had and in blue too, happy GG. I love Curvy Kate because they understand boobs and I am so pleased with my Atlantis set. In my video I did say that I needed to tighten the straps to get the best support but the fitting is actually perfect. I sized up from a 38GG to a 40G to give my back a little helping hand and it worked really well. I’d definitely say if you’re worried about causing lines or pain on your back with a bikini, size up with the back and down with the cups (sister sizing.) I didn’t think I would feel so comfortable in a proper bra-like bikini but I do! The pants are also a dream, I normally size up in pants anyway as I like them to cover my tummy, it feels nice basically! But this time I sized up to a 24 and got a really lovely fit, exactly what I wanted.
After being a tad disappointed that I couldn’t find ANY bikinis in the UK that offered this incredibly comfortable and supportive style, I just had to go elsewhere. A very lovely lady, Rolls and Curves, offered me her special Torrid discount and to have it shipped to her house so she could save me money and ship it to me herself. I was over the moon and I’m even happier now I’ve tried it on. THANK YOU AGAIN!
Torrid seriously understand plus size bodies, not all plus people want small, strappy bikinis and in the UK it seems we don’t have a choice whereas smaller sizes too. Torrid is one of the ONLY places I could find this long line style and I’m so glad I bought the Twist Front in Black so I can pair it with anything. I got the size 3 rather than the 2 because I wanted the long line to fit comfortably and not roll when I moved. It’s spot on for me, if a tiny bit roomy on the cups but it’s nothing than the removable fillets inside can’t fix.
In the past I’ve had some really beautiful swimskirt styled suits from Bonmarche but I wanted to get away from them as I find them mega cute and I could live in them, but I just wanted different styles and to branch out of my comfort zone. I highly recommend Bonmarche though, true to size but you can size up if you’d like, the boob support just isn’t as good then.
Costumes that I can’t write more than a sentence on because they’re so bad:
Yours Clothing – Black Cut out – £12 – Size 22
I broke it trying to get in and my boobs are spilling out everywhere.
Simply Be – stripes – £10 – Size 22
My boobs are so squashed and I nearly broke my entire body squeezing in, hard pass.
What have I learnt?
- The cheapest plus size swimsuits are normally the worst but you can get decent ones for around £20.
- Size up if you want a comfortable fit/suffer from any chronic pain, I highly recommend it.
- It may be worth investing in Torrid because they’re awesome.
- Don’t be fooled by the prices for ‘illusion panels’ or ‘minimising wrap overs’ you will still look the same size regardless so just go for something you like!
- Don’t be scared of bikinis, from a good brand you can be totally converted.
