Simply Be are shooting up on my top places to shop as a plus size woman, mainly because they now have a new shiny store in Meadowhall. As I no longer work in that god forsaken place, Meadowhall has returned to being a relatively nice place to shop, and a treat. Even if I’ve been running into the Apple shop crying with a broken keyboard, I’ve still popped into Simply Be every single visit. The staff are probably the sweetest in Meadowhall and they’ve made every single visit memorable and enjoyable. The last time I was in, I mentioned that there was going to be a Plus Size Blogger meetup in Meadowhall the following week (this Saturday actually) and they were over the moon at the thought of us going in. So much so, that they have now decided to put on special treats for us! But you’ll hear more of that next week….
Anyway, for the Plus Size Awards, I knew that whether I won or not, I needed pretty dresses for the weekend. On the Saturday day I wore Voodoo Vixen (who are actually stocked at Simply Be), for the Awards I wore a Kiyonna dress, and for the Sunday strolling around London with the incredible Designer, Gifi Fields, I wore this beautiful Kelly Brook Midi Dress* from Simply Be. After seeing it on the advert and how stunning Kelly looked, I thought it would be perfect. Normally in Simply Be I’ve been sizing up to a 22, but with this dress it’s actually really generous. I found the 22 to look fine with a belt, but it did bury me a little. I could have easily gotten away with a 20, or dare I say it, an 18. The material is very thick and stretchy, with an almost wool texture, despite it’s shininess.
On my tiny 5’3 silhouette (I obviously mean tiny in height…) it comes to around mid calf, which is around where it should be as it is described as a midi dress. This does mean that when I wear leggings, it is slight overkill with the black. It looks much better with my legs on show and heels to give me that extra boost. The plunging neckline is reasonably high and allows a little cleavage without being too busty or worse, frumpy. I decided to wear this with my trusted Yours Clothing Lace Jacket and a very old Primark belt as it definitely needs a waist belt of some sort. The torso is meant to be a lot longer, however, that is seriously unflattering on me, so I was really glad to find that it was just under my bust. Obviously a big downside if the waistline is why you wanted the dress….
At £75 it’s definitely on the pricier side of Winter Fashion, however, the quality feels pretty amazing and I can definitely see this dress lasting a good couple Winters. It’s really easy to dress down or style up, and basically it’s just easy glam. I would definitely stay to stick to your size, no need to size up at all, however I can’t say that for the rest of Kelly’s range as this is the only piece I’ve tried.
Using my Birthday money (as I turned 20 recently!) I decided to treat myself to another beauty from Simply Be which you’ll be seeing very shortly….
What do you think to Kelly Brook’s range?
