The Best Hair Styling and Treatment Products for Coloured Hair, with Amika, Batiste, and Maria Nila.

Having coloured hair may look fun, but we actually have to be careful about everything, including styling products. Which is why I’ve rounded up the best hair styling and treatment products for coloured hair from one of my favourite brands, and some new discoveries!

After Maria Nila’s already sucessful brand of some of the best colour refreshing and saving products on the market, the Swedish brand is now bringing three brand new styling and treatment products. They’re completely exclusive to Sally Express and of course, following on from the rest of Maria Nila’s incredible products, they’re all fantastic with coloured hair too. In fact, this trio make keeping your hair vibrant, even easier.

The Structure Repair Leave In Cream at £16.99 for 200ml is more aimed towards those with dry or damaged hair as it contains algae and a colour guard complex, to ensure shine and nourishment. It also helps repair damaged and prevent damage from styling with heat. All you do is use a small amount on towel dried hair and then style like normal.  The Luminous Colour Hair Lotion at £16.99 for 200ml has the active ingredient of pomegranate which has an anti-oxidant effect that not only protects colour, but it also works as a primer. This means that it seals split ends and tames frizzy hair. I love to use this as a hair mask and it’s also amazing for people with finer hair as it’s quite light in consistency, again it is to be used on towel dried hair and styled as normal. Finally, the True Soft Argan Oil at £16.99 at 100ml is for the most driest and parched hair for instant results and relief. The argan oil nourishes and hydrates from right within the cortex of the hair whilst making it soft and shiny. Obviously, it also protects the hair from losing colour and against UV rays. Maria Nila works so well because its sulphate and paraben free as well as 100% vegan!

Also exclusive and brand new to Sally Express is the Amika line, inspired my the sixties and therefore has some seriously fun and bright packaging. The range is all styling and treatments which promote healthier hair as they have tonnes of essential and nourishing ingredients inside. Amika’s powers come from using the super fruit Sea Buckthorn Berry (also known as Obliphica) which is native to Siberia and some parts of the Himalayas. The berry is used because of how many nutrients and vitamins it contains, which also means it’s rich in anti-oxidants as well as Vitamin E, and essential amino acids. The Amika Nourishing Mask at £19.99 for 250ml, really shows off just how moisturising and nourishing these products really are. It’s meant to penetrate the root of the hair, whilst helping to seal split ends and overall improving elasticity and shine. Thankfully it’s good for all hair types so nobody has to miss out on how amazing it smells or leaves your hair feeling. The Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray at £14.99 for 237ml is another protect that is meant to protect. To be used on damp hair before blow drying to give extra lift, texture and heat protection, it can even be used on dry hair for a very light hold! Finally the Amika Touchable Hairspray which is by far my favourite. This is such an incredibly strong holding but soft to touch hair spray, which has landed me a few compliments! The hairspray is £14.99 for 335ml and I’d love to say it has an amazing smell to go along with it’s qualities, but it’s a rather difficult to describe smell. Nothing bad, I was just expecting better with how fun and playful the packaging it. As long as it does the job though, I don’t care.

Also brand new is the Shield My Locks, Heat & Shine Spray from Batiste. Their brand new styling range has graced my hair and it’s rather impressive! Especially as I’m not a fan of batiste dry shampoo at all, how can I be with my hair? It really isn’t suitable for bright red, but thankfully these products are. This Heat & Shine spray says it all in the name, it’s all about heat protection to not cause any further damage, and leaving the hair looking healthier and shinier. It can actually protect up to 230°c and has been formulated to be used on wet, dry, or damp hair so that you don’t have to worry about damaging your hair when in a hurry.  I’ve also been trying out the Smooth It Frizz Tamer, these names really do give it all away. Frizzy, fly-aways and bushy hair beware as this spray helps control it all for up to 12 hours and it’s super lightweight. It contains keratin and Inca Inchi oil which help to strengthen the hair and care for the frizz. It’s meant to be sprayed onto dry hair and then brushed through for an even sleeker look. Both of these Batiste products are just £4.49 and can be bought at your local Boots.

Since going natural I also try to stick to paraben and sulfate-free products on my hair too as I’m really tryna look after my mane to ensure my hair is as healthy as possible.
I’ve been thinking of dying my hair, but will probs do so when my hair gets longer. I think with putting colour in your hair it’s that much more important to invest in good hair care products and practises, as if not looking after chemically treated hair properly it can be rather disastrous!
