Gatsbylady Rosemary Black and Gold Flapper Dress from Little Black Dress
I mention my chronic back pain a lot on my blog, it’s kinda hard not to when you’re in constant pain every second of the day, but I only ever mention it in passing. A couple weeks ago I was invited to #HoldEm4Charity, a casino event by Ladbrokes and Search Laboratory where the winner would be able to choose a charity to give the £500 winnings to. My family and I love the casino, we’re not big on betting and we normally only take what we wouldn’t miss (usually £20 haha!) but we love the atmosphere of the casino and being able to dress up. I was SO excited when I got the email and immediately put it in my diary. I contacted a company who I knew would have the perfect dress and arranged to loan one for the event. The day before the event I even spend HOURS on end perfecting a 1920s look for the Great Gatsby themed event, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Somedays one of my arms doesn’t work, they’re very rare days and apparently nothing to be worried about, it can just be my back playing up and/or I’ve slept funny. I won’t lie, it feels horrible but it has thankfully only happened around 5 times now. On all of those days I know I’ve not been able to use my arm properly, or stay conscious because of the unbearable pain. So when I woke up with this numb/strange feeling in both arms, I wanted to scream. I’m really not one to cancel at last minute, I hate it, I think people are so rude who do it (obviously without a reasonable explanation.) Reluctantly, I emailed Search Laboratory and spent the day sulking until my furniture turned up, then I spent it stressing over telling my Dad and Alfie for the 150th time where I was having my bed.
The event looked incredible, it was held in the Sky Lounge and the Hilton Leeds and everyone looked so amazing! They all really went to town with the Gatsby theme and I am so disappointed that I couldn’t join in. I really hope the winner, Bryony, picked an amazing charity as it was such a lovely idea for an event! I still wanted to write my post because I just know the event was amazing, Search Laboratory know how to throw a good event and they’re such sweethearts and sent me a goodie bag anyway which included delicious cookies from Honeywell Bakes! Plus Ladbrokes have sent me to the races 2 years in a row so I have a lotta love for them too as that’s an incredible day.
The main part of this post is obviously to show off how fabulous I would have looked if I had the chance! I didn’t end up doing the makeup or hair, simply as I had little strength and around 10 outfits to take photos of, so just imagine that I’ve binned it into a faux bob and done the exact makeup as in my photo below….can you see it? I did such a great job, didn’t I!?
Anyway, enough of me being vain. This dress is STUNNING. Literally one of the most beautiful dresses! I picked this out specifically because I wanted a little coverage on my arms which wouldn’t cause me to overheat, but I didn’t necessary want to cover up, just rather make the outfit look complete and this works beautifully. It’s the Gatsbylady Rosemary Black and Gold Flapper Dress from Little Black Dress. I had recently been surprised as I was receiving press releases from LBD and just assumed they didn’t stock plus, so when I saw they stock up to a 30, I was SO happy! Last time (in a post you can read HERE) I asked for a 24 thinking it might come up a little small and that is the case, but only if you want a more comfortable fit. A Great Gatsby styled dress doesn’t really pull in anywhere, they’re more up and down so this time I asked for a 22 so it was a little more fitted and easier to wear out. It is the absolute perfect fit, everywhere!
The bust sits beautifully to allow me to have a little chest out and not feel frumpy at all, the arms fit me well and I normally struggle there. It wasn’t tight at all on my tummy and skimmed past my curves nicely. I love the detail on the dress, it’s such a beautiful pattern and the detail below the knee is perfect. I’m only 5’3 and it gives me a little more coverage without added heaviness or baking me in material. It’s such a highly quality dress, I’m quite gutted that I’m only loaning this one (hence the red tag in some of the photos) I’m going to be really sad to see it go!
*I didn’t technically attend the attend but I was there in spirit and the dress was loaned for the event*
