I was ecstatic to win Best Fashion Blog at the Plus Size Awards last weekend and can not describe how grateful I am to everyone who voted, reads and supports She Might Be Loved. To have only been blogging for around 18 months and to have already built up an incredibly beautiful, friendly and loyal readership that would vote for me, is an unreal feeling. I regrettably didn’t even know about the Plus Size Awards until I was mentioned on Twitter saying I was one of the finalists, which already was mind blowing to say I didn’t have to ask people to nominate me. When I finally got my head around being voted for from people who just knew and read my blog already, the month leading up to the event was a surreal blur.
I’ve briefly mentioned it, but thanks to some idiot driving at ridiculous speeds and causing a car accident, I was out of work from my usual position at Lush trying to recover. When it came about that I wasn’t healing any time soon, and my attitude about life and my job changed, I left. Making it virtually impossible to attend such a glamorous night. But thankfully, through my 18 months blogging, I have made some incredible business friends including William from Sophisticated Curves, who constantly supports everything I do and was over the moon to provide me with this beautiful Kiyonna Dress. I cannot thank him enough for all his continued support and for suggesting such a gorgeous gown! I got it in a size 2XL which is an 18-20, normally I’d always size up, but with a dress like this I would have looked unshapely with extra material. I definitely recommend grabbing a tape measure and measuring yourself accurately against their size chart to make sure you get a good fit!
Not only did Sophisticated Curves save the weekend, but my very amazing friends at The Curve provided me with my event ticket and train tickets which I literally wouldn’t have been able to attend without. They even took me to Lunch to discuss future projects, wish me good luck and even gift me with their entire new collection (coming out very soon!). I was one spoilt but deliriously happy girl that day, and I still am. The entire team at The Curve each sent me good luck wishes on the night and congratulatory texts when I had won which was such a warm feeling to be so supported. I’d love to say the generosity stopped there, but Curvety was red hot at the Plus Size Awards and actually sponsored numerous models and bloggers, filling the room with beautiful dresses. One of which was my mum’s dress, the beautiful IGIGI Sequin Gown. My mum was jumping all over the living room with excitement when Curvety’s email came through and it definitely made the night special.
I’m still a little shocked over everyone’s support, but I am so glad that I could work hard enough to win this award and make these amazing people proud. I didn’t give any further sponsoring a second thought, as I already felt like the luckiest girl alive, but an incredible tweet came through just a few days before the awards. It was from Sargossa, a shoe company who had read my tweet on me always ending up barefoot with aching feet and they offered to send me a pair of their ridiculously comfortable and luxurious shoes. I struggle with shoes so much, so I was trying to remain optimistic at the thought of squeezing my feet into a non-wide fit pair of £170 Revolution Red shoes, but to my absolute delight, they were perfect. For the first time in literally forever, I didn’t take my shoes off during my night. I was told that this certain pair would definitely accommodate wide feet more and they certainly did, my fat little stumps felt comfortable and supported all night and now I shall wear these shoes everywhere.
The Plus Size Awards was definitely a different event with varying entertainment, my favourite of all was the incredible comedian, Ashleigh Owen I actually had tears streaming from laughter and I would love to see her perfume again! I got to spend the evening with the beautiful Vicky and her wonderful husband, Debz, Lucia, and Mary with her boyfriend who kept us laughing all night and kindly took photos for me with my award when I was shaking too much to do so myself. The food for the £130 priced ticket was less than thrilling, I won’t lie and I ended up starving at the end of the night. The rest of the event definitely made up for it as I finally got to meet people such as Lucie, who I absolutely adore. We almost ran to eachother with excitement and she gave me the most encouraging words when I had a slight moment of self doubt as to why I even won. I also finally met Leah, who even sent me a beautiful birthday present of personalised marshmallows! Food is the way to my heart. I also met a fellow model for Style XL, Laura, and bonded over red hair.
A huge congratulation to all those nominated and to the winners of the Plus Size Awards! (A list from BGP Magazine)
It was an incredible night and resulted in a melting face of makeup and free champagne that was in our room.
As always, my complete honesty on sponsoring, the event itself and my gratitude over winning. Thank you again to everyone who voted, it’s a complete honour to be classed as ‘Best Fashion Blog’ and I can promise that you can expect bigger and even better things from me in this upcoming year!
